Chi Bae Hostel can be found high up in the cool mountains of Om Koi, north-western Thailand. It is home to 105 Karen tribal children who come from remote villages and stay at the hostel so they can receive a quality education at the nearby school.
As the number of children increased at the hostel, providing food for all of the hungry mouths was becoming a problem. Mr. Malagee, director of the hostel, asked Operation Blessing for help to feed all of the children. OB willingly agreed, and since August 2007, has been providing 30 sacks of rice each month to feed the growing bodies.
Teesaw’s Journey
Twelve year old Teesaw Noepaison is from a very poor rural family. Her mother passed away giving birth to their seventh child. Teesaw’s family live in a small bamboo hut, without a bathroom. They would eat two meals a day, which usually consisted of rice with chili paste, and perhaps some local vegetables. Teesaw moved to live at the Chi Bae Hostel because her village school only had two classes.
Since Teesaw has been living at the hostel, her life has improved. Now she eats three meals a day, consisting of rice provided by OB, meat, noodles and vegetables. She helps with her team to cook, clean and wash up dishes.
Teesaw loves studying mathematics at her new school and is now top of her class. She said, “When I grow up, I would like to be a teacher. I am so grateful for the help we have received. I will pray for you and your family, that they will be happy and safe.”
