House of Blessing Transforms Young Lives

The children and staff from the House of
Blessing say thank you for their new bus
One of the projects supported by Operation Blessing which is close to our hearts is a children’s home in Doi Saket, called the House of Blessing. This home has a vision to love, educate, nurture and develop orphans, and poor, underprivileged children of Thailand.

The House of Blessing began in 1993 and currently nurtures 105 children, mostly of tribal ethnicity. All of the children’s basic needs are provided for: accommodation, food, school education fees, uniforms, medical check-ups, spiritual guidance, counseling and much more.

The House of Blessing also runs a Sewing Project for girls who did not complete secondary schooling and are “at risk” to be drawn into prostitution or drugs. This Sewing Project was initiated in 2002 with personal financial assistance from Pat Robertson, Founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network, and it provides a yearly course to teach the skills of sewing.

The House of Blessing also began a Babies Home in 2004 for “at risk” or abandoned babies. There are now 4 babies in the Babies Home.

Operation Blessing Thailand began supporting the House of Blessing back in 1999. This support has taken on the form of milk distribution, feeding programs,

provision of English teachers, assistance with livelihood programs, over $10,000 towards the cost of a new bus, well projects, and regular monthly financial support. Currently OB donates $1000USD a monthto the House of Blessing, and 30,100 baht (over $750USD) a month to the Sewing Project through a grant from the New Zealand Embassy.

Every one of the 105 children at the House of Blessing has a story of life transformation. Unfortunately there is not enough space to share them all, but here are two very special stories of transformed lives.

Baby Im
1. Baby Im

Before Baby Im was born, her mentally unstable mother tried to abort the baby by beating her stomach. When her attempts failed, she decided to kill the baby when it was born and bury the body under her house, so no one would ever see the baby alive.

Just after Im was born, someone offered 3000baht or about $75, to buy Baby Im from her mother. They wanted to use the child as a slave beggar on the Thai/Cambodian border. Her arms and legs were to be cut off so she would earn them more money. Rather than kill the baby herself, the mother agreed to the deal, but God had better plans for Baby Im.

When Im’s Aunty, who is the only Christian in her family, heard the proposed fate of Baby Im, she quickly contacted the House of Blessing who willingly agreed to take the baby in. The Aunty then pleaded with the mother for the life of five week old Im, and took her to the safety of the House of Blessing.

Im is now almost two years old, and is a happy and entertaining child who loves to dance. She is growing up in a safe and secure environment, being loved and nurtured, with a bright future ahead to discover all the blessings God has in his plan for her life.

Gonika (left) and Chatraporn
2. Gonika and Chatraporn

Eleven year old Gonika and her nine year old sister Chatraporn, are from the Hmong hill tribe in Thailand. Gonika can remember the night the police came to her house searching for her mother and father. Her parents had fled the home, leaving the grandparents to take care of the children. They were wanted on drug trafficking charges, and were later caught and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Gonika and Chatraporn were taken in by the House of Blessing almost one year ago, after their parents were put in prison. Gonika’s face beamed with joy as she reflected on the past year, “At the House of Blessing, I have so many friends and lots of love. In my old village I didn’t have many friends and we were always fighting with each other.”

Both girls love to dance, sing and worship God with all the other children at the House of Blessing. When they grow up their desire is to serve God. Gonika stated, “I thank God for Mother Jip and Father Rachan (Parents and Directors of House of Blessing) who take such good care of us.”

The House of Blessing has truly been a blessing to Gonika and Chatraporn, as their bright smiley faces tell the story.

Operation Blessing (OB) is pleased to partner with the House of Blessing. Baby Im, Gonika and Chatraporn are just a few examples from the 105 children at House of Blessing, of how a little love and care can help change a life forever. The House of Blessing is exactly what its name implies - a blessing to all those who call it home. OB is pleased to help be a channel of blessing into these young lives, seeing them transformed by God’s love, and renewed with a fresh hope and joy in life.
