A number of tsunami victims who lost their homes during the tsunami of December 2004, were relocated to the new village of Pru Dieow in Phang Nga Province. The downstairs area of these new houses, which is used mainly for cooking, dining and storage, was not built-in, exposing it to the elements and making it vulnerable to thieves.
The head of Pru Dieow village requested assistance from Operation Blessing to help build-in the houses, making them more livable and secure. Many of the residents in Pru Dieow village are poor and unable to make the necessary improvements themselves. Operation Blessing agreed to the request and provided home improvements and extensions to 67 houses in Pru Dieow Village. The total cost of this project was 4,377,992 Thai baht or about $125,000 USD.
